The California Legislature has enacted a joint resolution that asks the United States Department of Justice not to focus its enforcement priorities on California’s lawful and closely regulated cannabis industry. The California Legislature sates that the federal government should respect the state’s right, as mandated by the citizens of California, to legalize marijuana. The joint resolution asks the United States Attorneys who represent the people of California to indicate whether they intend to divert scarce resources to focus on the cannabis industry, instead of focusing on legitimate public safety concerns such as the prosecution of individuals who created the prescription drug epidemic. Copies of the joint resolution will be provided to President Trump.
