ANIMAL CANNABIS BILL PASSES CA SENATE

Written by Josh Levine | Aug 30, 2018 5:14:00 PM

The California Senate passed a bill that restricts a veterinarian’s ability to administer or dispense cannabis products to animal clients, and prevents veterinarians from touting marijuana as a treatment option if the veterinarian has a financial arrangement with a cannabis licensee.  Licensed veterinarians are also prohibited from distributing cannabis advertisements in California. Finally, licensed veterinarians or their immediate family are prohibited from accepting, soliciting or offering remuneration from or to a cannabis licensee in which the veterinarian or family member has a financial interest. The Veterinary Medical Board is authorized to revoke or suspend a license or issue a fine against veterinarians who violate these provisions.  The California Senate passes AB-2215 Veterinarians: cannabis: animals by a vote of 37 yes and 1 no.
