Q1 2025 Retail and Food Services Sales Increase 4.8% YoY

According to the ICSC report today, first quarter retail and food services sales (excluding motor vehicles, auto parts and gasoline) totaled $1.58 trillion in the first quarter of 2025. Compared to the previous quarter, Q1-2025 sales for this sector grew 0.6% and increased 4.8% year over year, which is the strongest pace in more than a year.

Sales for non-store retailers saw the strongest year-over-year growth followed by furniture and home furnishings stores and health and personal care stores. Sporting goods, hobby, musical instruments and bookstores, and electronics and appliance stores were the only categories to experience a YoY decline. Building material, garden equipment and supplies dealers saw sales decline the most from Q4-2024.
